Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy
I work collabouratively with children and their parents offereing support and guidance through the challenges of childhood/ adolescence and the changing life cycle.I integrate several therapeutic methods to find the one which works for the child. This may include a combination of play/ sand/ art therapy or for older children it may be individual psychotherapy using some Dialectical Behavioural therapy.
Individual Psychotherapy
At my practice I offer individual psychotherapy that is person-centred and systemic. My approach is tailored to each individual's needs, helping them gain insight into their thoughts, feelings and behaviours in order to make positive changes in their life. I strive to create a safe, non-judgemental and supportive environment for our clients.
Couples therapy
Couples therapy focuses on a systemic approach to understanding the relationship dynamics between two people. I use this approach to help couples build communication skills, understand and resolve conflicts, and create a stronger, healthier relationship.

What is family therapy?

Family therapy is a way of working with families, so that they can understand and deal more effectively with any difficulties that family members may be experiencing. All families have their ups and downs and have to cope with crises from time to time. Usually, people can cope well enough with these difficulties but something things can mount up and seem too much. Systemic family therapy is an approach used to understand a person's emotional and psychological distress. Its a way of working with families, so that they can understand and deal more effectively with any difficulties that family members may be experiencing. The functioning and dynamics of the family are taken inot account and the context in which the problem is happening is examined.
01.
-
It draws upon the strengths and commitments of families
-
It helps them explore difficulties being experience
-
It assists family members to re build communications and relationships where they have broken down.
-
It gives all members of the family a chance to have their voices heard.
02.
The family usually meets with the therpaist one a week or once a fortnight at an agreed time for an hour. Some families can resolve their difficulties in six or eight sessionand some may need more. At times, a whole family will attend together but this is not essential and even the presence of one or two people is enough to effect change. I include people of all ages but usually the first session will involve only the parents if there are young children in the family.
03.
Every family is different but the problems I often help families with are:
-
Anxious children and teenagers
-
School refusal
-
Behaviour problems in children and adolescents.
-
Working with the effects of past trauma in a family.
-
Managing peaceful co-parenting after separation.
-
Bereavement
-
Working with families where there are addiction issues
